I've always been the type of traveler who likes what I like. Staying comfortable, sticking to what I know, not straying too far from the familiar. So when our Princess Cruise itinerary had us starting and ending in San Juan, Puerto Rico, I wasn't expecting the city itself to teach me something about travel I'd been resisting for years.
We arrived after a seemingly decent flight with a bunch of really good friends, ready to unwind before boarding the ship. The hotel check-in went smoothly enough, but then we hit a wall. We sat for what seemed like hours waiting to get some sort of food. The group energy started to deflate. I remember thinking, "Well, the night is going to end with us hungry and disappointed."

Los Pinos Cafe is located a little bit away from where the hotels are, but it's not in such a scary place as to make you worry about where you are. The people were absolutely friendly. The neighborhood felt safe. And yet, getting there required stretching my comfort zone just enough to discover something I never would have found otherwise.
Going out on our own to find that cafe was fantastic. We really enjoyed it, and more importantly, it opened my eyes to what becomes possible when you allow yourself a bit of a sense of adventure on vacation.
I think anyone looking for something authentic, quick, and absolutely delicious should try Los Pinos Cafe. It's perfect for travelers who want to get out and stretch their comfort zone a little. You're walking a bit away from the tourist zone, but the payoff is real. The kind of memory that becomes the story you tell when you get home.
Taking that chance and being a little bit adventurous opened up my mind to new experiences.
